Burke Christian School

Do we want our children to become educated atheists, embracing the values of an education system from which God is excluded? Education is not neutral. At Burke Christian School, we believe it is imperative that children receive a godly education – providing a foundation for life.

About Us

Principal's Welcome

Thank you for visiting our website.

Our school is firmly established on the Christian ethos. We hold that God is the Creator, that He has sent His Son Jesus Christ to be the Saviour of the world, and that man is accountable and responsible to Him. We believe that embracing these truths is fundamental to the successful education of a child.

We reject the humanistic ethic, which denies the existence of God and, imposing itself in greater and greater measure in our state schools, sees religion as an obstacle to a modern education system.

These are critical times for our young people with rising rates of youth depression, social/behavioural problems and suicide. It is imperative that we remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ: ‘Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God' [1]. Nothing should be said or done to hinder or deprive the child from this all-important right.

After thirty years of education both in the primary and secondary fields, I am now more convinced than ever of the necessity of Christian education.

I invite you to get in touch and look forward to hearing from you.

Individualised Learning

We offer the following subject choices: Maths, Irish, English, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, German, Business and Music. At Burke Christian School, each pupil has an individual learning plan and works at a pace attuned to their ability.

Each child receives individual attention and children can advance in the curriculum without being held back by those who need more time to learn. Teachers work closely with each child and pupils are encouraged to ask questions and engage critically with the subject material. Advancement to new material only occurs when all previous material is thoroughly mastered – this means children build a firm base of understanding and become confident, assured learners.

The Centrality of the Scriptures

At Burke Christian School, the Word of God as contained in the Holy Scriptures is central to the learning process. The Scriptures present God as the Creator and Sustainer of life. To this end, the Scriptures’ revealed truth shapes our values, determines our attitudes and consciously directs our behaviour.

When the knowledge of God is erased from the mind, everything is permissible. By contrast, the Christian ethic insists that certain things are always morally wrong, and that rejecting absolute truth tends to personal and social chaos. As educators, we embrace our responsibility to nurture young minds in absolute truth: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Pr. 23:6).

Our Standard of Education

The quality of our convictions is reflected in the standard of education we provide for the next generation. At Burke Christian School, we create an environment where extra-curricular abilities, as well as academic achievement, are fostered. Music, art and design, public speaking and other creative abilities form a core part of our curriculum.

In Ireland, we are privileged to have some of the best constitutional protections in the world: explicit provisions that “the primary and natural educator of the child is the Family” and that the State will respect parents’ right to provide “for the religious and moral, intellectual, physical and social education of their children.” Burke Christian School wholeheartedly supports these constitutional provisions, and encourages full involvement of parents in all learning and teaching.

Why Christian Education?

God as Creator

An education which acknowledges God as the Creator and Sustainer of Life is necessary for a child to reach his or her potential. Only Christian education can meet the moral and spiritual needs of your child, as well as facilitating their academic progress.

A Foundation for Living

Christian education provides students with the confidence to develop their innate gifts and abilities. Knowing that they are unique, valued and individually gifted is the greatest impetus a child can have to genuine learning and lasting development.

A Caring Environment

Education is not neutral; the environment in which a child learns can have a tremendous impact. Our Christian ethos encourages the development of the child spiritually, socially and academically, allowing them to reach their greatest potential.
